Follow Friday: Charlie Mackesy

It was hard not to notice Charlie Mackesy’s new book in the bookshops, it was widely promoted everywhere. I was immediately drawn to his loose poignant style.

Charlie Mackesy is a London based illustrator and writer. He has recently published his first book, The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse.

I love his loose drawings which looks like they are done using a ink and brush. His illustration usually come with his quirky hand lettering featuring poetic and suggestive conversation between the animals and a boy. It does bring to mind Winnie the Pooh and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Looking at his website, it looks like he is also proficient in other media like oils and sculpture.
